Baseball Recap: Moapa Valley Takes a Loss

Moapa Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Virgin Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4. The Pirates have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Moapa Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyson Pettingill, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Pettingill is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Parker Leavitt was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Moapa Valley's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-9. As for Virgin Valley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8.

While Moapa Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
