After both having extra time off, the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars and the Cannon Falls Bombers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cannon Falls took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Zumbrota-Mazeppa, who comes in off a win.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa barely beat Kasson-Mantorville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Komets 3-0 on Tuesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa never let Kasson-Mantorville on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Cannon Falls came up short against Pine Island on Tuesday and fell 3-1. While the Bombers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 25-16 in the first set.
Cannon Falls started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa will have to contain Katie Tipton as she made an impact in Cannon Falls' last game. She had 28 digs and four assists. Tipton has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more digs the last three times she's played.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Cannon Falls, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-13.
