The Overland Trailblazers will head out to square off against the Gateway Olympians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Overland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Overland gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Aurora Central with a sharp 14-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trailblazers.
Humberto Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Perez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Ruben Luna was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. Luis Chavez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI.
Overland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Gateway came up short against Skyview on Tuesday, falling 14-6. The Olympians have struggled against the Wolverines recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Mervin Loya and Christopher De La Torre did some serious damage despite the final result: Loya scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while De La Torre went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Gateway is 2-1 when Loya posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.
Overland's record is now 4-5. As for Gateway, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Overland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gateway struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Overland couldn't quite finish off Gateway in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Trailblazers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
