Baseball Recap: Jackson's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Jackson came into Monday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Ypsilanti Grizzlies a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The Vikings' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Joey Ortiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Spencer Bush, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Jackson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Jackson's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for Ypsilanti, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Ypsilanti is taking a road trip to face off against Tecumseh at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson will be paying especially close attention to the Grizzlies' contest: after the Grizzlies face off against the Indians, they'll take on Jackson again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
