The Madison Warhawks will take on the San Ysidro Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Madison not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 10-0). Everything went their way against Christian as they made off with an 8-2 win.
Jorge Luque was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Charlie Kroning looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jack O'Toole was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Jackson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but San Ysidro had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Caimans. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
San Ysidro let Axel Reyes and Adrik Sanchez run wild. Reyes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Sanchez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Manny Torres was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Madison pushed their record up to 22-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for San Ysidro, their win bumped their record up to 18-11.
Madison was able to grind out a solid victory over San Ysidro in their previous matchup back in March of 2016, winning 6-1. Do the Warhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
