Softball Recap: Fenwick Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Fenwick had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Payton College Prep on Friday. The Friars put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 11-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Friars in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won six in a row.

Gianna Pescatore made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Pescatore was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Kailey Janda was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Alex Purta was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Fenwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches.

Fenwick pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Payton College Prep, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Coming up, Fenwick will square off against Loyola Academy at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Ramblers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Payton College Prep, they will face off against Northside at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.71 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
