Preview: Broomfield Eagles vs. Palmer Ridge Bears
Broomfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Palmer Ridge Bears at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Broomfield had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 38-6 win over the Grizzlies at home. Broomfield pushed the score to 31-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Mesa Ridge had little chance of recovering from.
Brent Harris and CT Worley were among the main playmakers for Broomfield as the former gained 110 total yards and a touchdown and the latter rushed for 24 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge faced Heritage in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Palmer Ridge blew past Heritage 28-7. Palmer Ridge's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Derek Hester continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 104 yards and a touchdown. Hester was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Holden Wright was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Broomfield's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.1 points per game. As for Palmer Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Broomfield has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Palmer Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 228.9 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
