Basketball Recap: Mabel-Canton Takes a Loss

Mabel-Canton lost against Wabasha-Kellogg back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mabel-Canton Cougars fell 72-61 to the Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (57), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Mabel-Canton lost, don't look at Tyler Larson. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance gave Larson a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Isaac Underbakke, who dropped a double-double on 11 boards and ten assists.

Even though they lost, Mabel-Canton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Mabel-Canton's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Wabasha-Kellogg, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-13.

Mabel-Canton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-46 win against Lanesboro on the 3rd. Wabasha-Kellogg has also already played their next game, an 81-35 defeat against Southland on the 1st.
