Baseball Recap: Scranton Prep Takes a Loss

Scranton Prep had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it six. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Abington Heights Comets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Wednesday.

AJ Croom was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Reece Vida, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Abington Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

On Abington Heights' side, Reese Zalewski made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Zalewski has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Thomas LaCoe was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Tate Pentasuglio was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Scranton Prep will challenge Valley View at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Abington Heights, they will face off against West Scranton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Comets are facing the Invaders at the right time seeing as the Invaders are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
