Softball Recap: Cannelton Comes Up Short

Cannelton couldn't beat Evansville Bosse on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. Cannelton fell just short of Evansville Bosse by a score of 9-7. Cannelton has struggled against Evansville Bosse recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Bria Garrett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Kylie Anstasiades made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Hulse, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Cannelton's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Evansville Bosse, their victory ended a 19-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-14.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Cannelton will challenge Springs Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Blackhawks at the right time seeing as the Blackhawks are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Evansville Bosse, they will square off against Boonville at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
