Basketball Recap: Branford Comes Up Short

Branford suffered their biggest defeat since December 17, 2024 on Friday. They lost 64-41 to the Fort White Indians. The Buccaneers have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Branford still got an impressive performance from Cloey Criggall, who went 8 of 16 en route to 20 points. What's more, Criggall also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Amyah James was another key player, putting up six points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Branford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Leading Fort White to victory were Isreal Hart and Ya'Zuri Hollie. Hart almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds, while Hollie made all 10 shots she took to post 28 points and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Hollie has scored at least a third of Fort White's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Erickah Roberson, who posted two points and eight assists.

Branford's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Fort White, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

Branford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-43 victory against Dixie County on the 28th. Fort White has also already played their next match, a 56-20 win against Keystone Heights on the 27th.
