Freeport and South Walton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. Freeport will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against South Walton at 6:00 p.m. Freeport knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully South Walton likes a good challenge.
While Freeport's victory against Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Freeport narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Central 10-8. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Kayla Stephens was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Corissa Duggar was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Stephens wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Freeport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Freeport is 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, South Walton was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They lost 10-1 to Holmes County.
Tatum Kreinus made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Zoey Kreinus, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Freeport pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for South Walton, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
South Walton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Freeport has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for South Walton, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Freeport's sizable advantage in that area, South Walton will need to find a way to close that gap.
