Football Recap: Willcox Skates Past Scottsdale Preparatory Academy with Ease

Willcox had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 48-14 victory over the Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 34 points or more this season.

Kaleb Cooke was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 173 yards while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Those 173 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Asher Ward was another key back, rushing for 119 yards on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Willcox was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 353 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive games.

Willcox didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ward and Joseph Sanchez. Another thorn in Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's side was Vlad Semyanko, who picked up two sacks and made four total tackles.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Will Ryken and Braxton Whittington. Ryken rushed for 38 yards and two scores, while Whittington picked up 142 receiving yards. Whittington also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Willcox's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Willcox has already played their next matchup, a 58-0 victory against Desert Christian on the 3rd. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 49-0 win against Madison Highland Prep on the 3rd.
