Baseball Game Preview: Pana Panthers vs. Newton Eagles

The Pana Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Newton Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pana is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Sullivan by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday.

Micah Meadows and Dane Epley did most of the damage at the plate: Meadows scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Epley scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That hit was Meadows' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Newton was able to grind out a solid win over Charleston on Friday, taking the game 6-2.

Quincy Fulton was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Dominic Baltzell, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Newton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. Pana's win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Pana was able to grind out a solid victory over Newton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pana since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
