Baseball Game Preview: Newport Harbor Sailors vs. Los Alamitos Griffins

For the second straight game, Newport Harbor will face off against Los Alamitos. The Sailors will challenge the Griffins at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Newport Harbor's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Los Alamitos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Newport Harbor's offense. They lost 8-0 to Los Alamitos on Wednesday. That makes it the first time this season the Sailors have let down their home crowd.

For Los Alamitos' part, TRISTIN DALZELL tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave DALZELL a new career-high.

On the hitting side, TYLER SMITH was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. DEVIN PORCH was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Los Alamitos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive games.

Newport Harbor's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Los Alamitos, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 12-3-2 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newport Harbor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Los Alamitos struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts.
