Basketball Game Preview: Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds vs. Cooper Jaguars

Newport Central Catholic is 1-8 against Cooper since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds will head out to challenge the Cooper Jaguars at 7:30 p.m.

Last Saturday, Newport Central Catholic was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-50 to Holy Cross. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Indians are ranked 12th).

Meanwhile, Cooper waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 53-45 victory over the Warriors.

Newport Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Cooper, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.

Newport Central Catholic took a serious blow against Cooper in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 68-34. Can Newport Central Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
