The Newton Falls Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Southeast Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Newton Falls made easy work of Lordstown and carried off a 13-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.
Abby Wolford was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Hanna Wright also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Newton Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Southeast came out on top against United on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Pirates put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 12-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won three games in a row.
Lilly Hayes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Hayes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Southeast got a massive performance out of Bailey Morris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Morgan Muncy was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one triple.
Southeast pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Newton Falls, their record now sits at 6-7-1.
Newton Falls might still be hurting after the 16-2 defeat they got from Southeast in their previous matchup on April 9th. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
