Softball Game Preview: Franklin Lightning vs. Grant Generals

The Franklin Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Grant Generals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Wednesday, Franklin made easy work of Roosevelt and carried off a 21-11 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lightning in their matchups with the Roughriders: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Grant got the win against Lincoln on Wednesday by a conclusive 16-5.

Hazel Heron made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Margot Kalmanson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Anona Kerrigan was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Grant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Franklin's record now sits at 6-13. As for Grant, their record is now 9-7.

Franklin might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Grant in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Lightning avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
