Basketball Recap: Hartland Comes Up Short

Hartland was the 50-40 winner over Canton when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Hartland Eagles took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canton Cobras on Friday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Canton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kessler Blakita, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. The matchup was Blakita's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Lem Pettway, who went 6-for-10 en route to 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Hartland's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Canton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hartland will square off against Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Canton, they will face off against Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Canton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season.
