Basketball Recap: Makayla Williams and Zoe Rockenfield Secure Win for Morgan

There's no place like home for Morgan, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 54-41 win over the Roy Royals on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Leading Morgan to victory were Zoe Rockenfield and Makayla Williams. Rockenfield almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Williams posted 19 points along with seven steals and six boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of the Trojans' points. Kendal Williams also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.

Despite the defeat, Roy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lily Solomona almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Solomona also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 46%. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Thorsted, who had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Morgan's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Roy, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Morgan will head out to take on North Summit at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Roy, they will welcome Woods Cross at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
