Basketball Recap: Melbourne Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Melbourne Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 50-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elite Prep Academy Eagles. The matchup marked the Hustlers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Melbourne Central Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grady Bonenberger went 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Hamilton, who posted eight points.

Elite Prep Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kirk Duhaney, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Duhaney is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. King Williams was another key player, going 5 of 10 to rack up 16 points and five steals.

Melbourne Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Elite Prep Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9.

Melbourne Central Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-39 loss against IMG Academy on the 31st. As for Elite Prep Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-39 win against Orlando Science on the 30th.
