Basketball Game Preview: Lumberton Pirates vs. Seventy-First Falcons

The Lumberton Pirates and the Seventy-First Falcons will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lumberton took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Purnell Swett with a sharp 49-28 victory. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Andrea Brown was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. The match was her ninth in a row with at least 16 points. Charley Whitley was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Seventy-First had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 47-40 win over the Colts. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Colts are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Seventy-First's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. As for Lumberton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Lumberton skirted past Seventy-First 49-46 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will Lumberton repeat their success, or does Seventy-First have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
