Baseball Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Arlington Lions
A feisty cat fight will be fought as Coronado Cougars face off against Arlington Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Coronado has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Thursday, Coronado didn't have quite enough to beat Desert Oasis and fell 8-6. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Diamondbacks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Drew Steffen and Hudson Jones stepped up to the plate in a big way. Steffen scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Jones went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits Jones has posted over his last 12 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Santiago Cocon, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arlington). They blew past Poly 18-0 on Thursday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Arlington's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
