Football Recap: Murrah Comes Up Short

Murrah extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They were beaten by the Starkville Yellowjackets 55-14. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellowjackets from their previous meeting back in October of 2022.

Schorrard Murray threw for 61 yards on six of 15 attempts. Courtavious Russell was his top target, picking up 64 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Justin Atkins rushed for 62 yards.

As for Starkville, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. That 41 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

A'Braylen Jenkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 84 yards and a pair of TDs, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Kingston Johnson, who threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Murrah will face off against Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Starkville, they will take on Madison Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
