Softball Recap: White Oak Triumphs

White Oak's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They never let the Northside - Jacksonville Monarchs get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Jenna Banks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Gracie Tompkins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Malaysia Curtis, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

White Oak hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win got White Oak back to even at 7-7. As for Northside - Jacksonville, they dropped their record down to 0-14 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, White Oak will challenge Croatan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Northside - Jacksonville, they will take on New Bern at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Monarchs surely won't give up without a fight.
