Recap: St. Mary's Cardinals vs. McCool Junction Mustangs
The St. Mary's Cardinals posted their closest victory yet this season on Saturday. They had just enough and edged McCool Junction out 41-39. The win made it back-to-back wins for St. Mary's.
Mya Hedstrom was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lorissa Reiman, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Defeat or not, McCool Junction got some senior leadership from McKenna Yates who scored 15 points along with five steals and Briann Stutzman who scored 16 points. That was a full 38.5% of McCool Junction's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
St. Mary's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for McCool Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
St. Mary's will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Santee. Santee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while St. Mary's is ranked 41st). McCool Junction will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bruning-Davenport/Shickley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
