Poquoson has gone 8-2 against Bruton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Islanders will face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Poquoson has eight straight wins, Bruton has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Poquoson had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 22-run drubbing they dealt Lafayette on Wednesday. The Islanders were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Rams. That 22 run margin sets a new team best for the Islanders this season.
Ava Dolewski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She also tossed a walk, marking her first of the season.
At the plate, Tinley Goodson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Laney, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Poquoson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Bruton fell victim to Jamestown and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Bruton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nadya Hunter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Hunter is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Poquoson's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bruton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Poquoson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bruton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Poquoson took their victory against Bruton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0 score. Will the Islanders repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
