Basketball Game Preview: Cox Falcons vs. Deep Creek Hornets

After both having extra time off, the Cox Falcons and the Deep Creek Hornets will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cox has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 179 points over their last three contests.

Cox took a loss when they played away from home back in December of 2024, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed two weeks ago. They claimed a resounding 59-27 victory over Ocean Lakes. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Dolphins are ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Deep Creek came up short against Nansemond River two weeks ago, falling 75-51. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Cox will have to contain Kamari Ricks as he made an impact in Deep Creek's last game. He almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Ricks has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Reggie Wyatt, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Deep Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Deep Creek now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Cox, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4.
