Softball Recap: Our Lady of the Lakes Takes a Loss

Our Lady of the Lakes had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-5 to make it five. They came up short against the Shrine Catholic Knights, falling 16-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lakers have suffered since March 27th.

Molly Ronquillo was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Emelia Asai also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Shrine Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

On Shrine Catholic's side, Samantha Swaneck made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Swaneck was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Beaudoin, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Marguerite Bunek, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Our Lady of the Lakes has already played their next game, a 13-8 victory against Whitmore Lake on the 3rd. As for Shrine Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 11-1 loss against Lutheran Northwest on the 3rd.
