Basketball Game Preview: Waconia Wildcats vs. Jefferson Jaguars

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Waconia Wildcats challenge the Jefferson Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... Waconia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Jefferson likes a good challenge.

Waconia is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Benilde-St. Margaret's just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Red Knights by a score of 62-60. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Red Knights are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Jefferson didn't have quite enough to beat Chanhassen on Tuesday and fell 70-67. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (64), the Jaguars still had to take the loss.

Jefferson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Waconia, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-8.

Everything came up roses for Waconia against Jefferson when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 104-65 win. Does Waconia have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jefferson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
