Basketball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Cougar vs. Surry HomeSchool Runnin' Patriots

The Calvary Christian Cougar are taking a road trip to square off against the Surry HomeSchool Runnin' Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Calvary Christian will head into Friday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big back in December of 2024 (they won by 49) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Fellowship Baptist Academy 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougar have posted since November 9, 2023.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Surry HomeSchool, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They strolled past Dayspring Christian Academy with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 50-36.

Calvary Christian better focus on containing Dylan Butcher and Heath Clark as the pair were huge in Surry HomeSchool's win. Butcher posted 21 points, while Clark had 14 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Butcher has scored at least a third of Surry HomeSchool's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John David Bunke, who put up five points.

Calvary Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Surry HomeSchool, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-12.

Calvary Christian came up short against Surry HomeSchool in their previous meeting back in January of 2021, falling 52-47. Can Calvary Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
