Basketball Recap: Midd-West Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Midd-West can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They breezed by the Newport Buffaloes to the tune of 59-24. With the Mustangs ahead 30-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Midd-West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but D'Zani Coley led the charge by putting up 17 points. The contest was Coley's third in a row with at least ten points. Gabe Romig was another key player, posting 12 points along with six boards and four steals.

Newport's loss came despite strong showings from Landon Zaring and Evan Fleisher. Zaring almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds, while Fleisher posted six points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Fleisher a new career-high in steals (two).

Midd-West's victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Newport, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Midd-West will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Shikellamy at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Newport, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-31 defeat against West Perry on the 27th.
