Softball Recap: Milano Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Milano's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They never let the Iola Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Karley Hairston was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Malina Gordon was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Victoria Balderas, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Milano hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Milano pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Iola, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coincidentally, Milano and Iola will both be playing Burton the next time they take the field. Iola will host Burton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Milano will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on March 18th.
