Baseball Recap: Santa Rosa Has No Trouble Against Melrose

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Rosa). Everything went their way against the Melrose Buffaloes on Tuesday as Santa Rosa made off with a 27-11 victory. The Lions have beaten the Buffaloes the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Buffaloes has come to flipping the script.

Santa Rosa got a massive performance out of Joshua Cordova, who scored six runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. What's more, Cordova posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of David Chavez, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with seven RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.

Santa Rosa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Santa Rosa back to even at 2-2. As for Melrose, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Santa Rosa Lions challenge Jal Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Rosa's pitchers better be ready for this one: Jal has averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Melrose, they will host Dora at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be Melrose's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
