Softball Recap: Struthers Comes Up Short

Struthers had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Girard Indians, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Wildcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Girard, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-7. Considering they have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Girard's part, Chloe Plant made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Plant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI.

Struthers will venture away from home to challenge McKinley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.46 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Girard, they will be playing at home against Chaney at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
