Preview: West Point Pointers vs. Northampton Yellowjackets
The West Point Pointers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northampton Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Last Thursday, West Point narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Colonial Beach 49-47. The victory was just what West Point needed coming off of a 83-24 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Northampton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 55 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Phoebus and snuck past 54-51.
Northampton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ronyell Coston led the charge by scoring 22 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Coston has scored at least 25% of Northampton's points. Quayshawn Washington was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
West Point's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Northampton, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2.
