Baseball Recap: Bernards Comes Up Short

Bernards had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 6-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Montgomery Cougars, falling 19-2. The Mountaineers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Bernards saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Pace, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

As for Montgomery, their record is now 7-11-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Montgomery's side, Jake Hayes looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Hayes posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Neufeld, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Patrick Fogerty, who earned three RBI and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bernards will take on The Pingry School at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Montgomery, they will square off against Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
