Baseball Recap: Zapata Drops Highest Score of Season Against King

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Zapata). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the King Brahmas a 14-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Zapata got a great performance from Noel Camarillo as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Camarillo also allowed no hits, which is notable because the Hawks are 4-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lauro Guerra and Jay Solis did most of the damage at the plate: Guerra scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Solis scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, Solis posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ryan Solis, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Zapata always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King only posted an OBP of .067.

Zapata's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for King, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.

Coincidentally, Zapata and King will both be playing Robstown the next time they take the field. The Brahmas will host the Cottonpickers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Hawks will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
