Glencoe is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will welcome the Newberg Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Glencoe's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Newberg has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Glencoe is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: Jesuit, who was ranked first at the time (Glencoe was ranked 22nd). The Crimson Tide came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crusaders on Thursday, sneaking past 7-6. That's two games straight that the Crimson Tide have won by just one run.
The team relied heavily on Irene Vandyke, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kalli Farrimond was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Newberg came into Friday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Liberty on Friday.
Gracie Spry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Lucy Kitchen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Glencoe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newberg, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Everything went Glencoe's way against Newberg when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Glencoe made off with an 11-2 victory. Will the Crimson Tide repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
