Chatfield won the last time they faced Columbine and things went their way on Thursday too. The Chargers skirted past the Rebels 5-4.
Evan Novotny tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. Sam Vroman picked up the save, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Luke Shepard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Keir Traurig, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Chatfield's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Columbine, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chatfield beat the Rebels by a score of 8-2 on Saturday.
