Baseball Recap: Western Gets the Win

It's playoff time, and Western had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons by a score of 4-1 on Friday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

River Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Western is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-13 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adrian Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Western is undefeated when Diaz posts two or more runs, but 9-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Daniel Garcia Tapia, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Western now has a winning record of 15-14. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-11.

Looking ahead, Western will face off against Spring Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Doral Academy Red Rock does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
