Basketball Game Preview: Kirkwood Cobras vs. Springfield Yellow Jackets

The Kirkwood Cobras are taking a road trip to take on the Springfield Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Monday, Kirkwood ended up a good deal behind Clarksville and lost 41-23. While losing is never fun, the Cobras can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Wildcats are ranked 61st).

Meanwhile, Springfield was just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 43-42 to Rossview.

Kirkwood will need to focus on slowing down Adrianna Hudson, one of several Springfield players who made an impact when they last played. She posted eight points along with 11 boards and five steals. That's the most steals Hudson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taleah Patterson, who scored ten points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups.

Kirkwood's record now sits at 9-16. As for Springfield, their record now sits at 16-13.

Kirkwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield when the teams last played on February 7th, sneaking past 39-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kirkwood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
