Basketball Game Preview: Signal Mountain Eagles vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Signal Mountain Eagles will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a tournament on Thursday. Signal Mountain will be strutting in after a victory while Notre Dame will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Monday, Signal Mountain really took it to Scott for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-36 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Saturday. They fell 56-45 to Gatlinburg-Pittman. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Irish can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Highlanders are ranked 40th).

Signal Mountain will have to keep a close watch on Gaas Herman and Maximo Santiesteban, a pair of players who had a big impact on Notre Dame's prior game. Herman posted 18 points, while Santiesteban scored 14 points. Herman's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Douglas, who put up five points.

Notre Dame now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Signal Mountain, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Things could have been worse for Signal Mountain, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-43 loss to Notre Dame when the teams last played back in December of 2021. Can Signal Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
