Baseball Game Preview: Trumbull Eagles vs. Ludlowe Falcons

The Trumbull Eagles will challenge the Ludlowe Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Trumbull 1.9, Ludlowe 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

If Trumbull beats Ludlowe with three runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand Ridgefield a 3-0 shutout on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Ludlowe and Wilton meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Falcons blew past the Warriors 10-0. Considering the Falcons have won six games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Tyler Geriak's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Kenny Luczaj and Joe Calabro did most of the damage at the plate: Luczaj went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Calabro went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Luczaj a new career-high. Dylan Davis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Ludlowe's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Trumbull, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Trumbull skirted past Ludlowe 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
