Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Sets Scoring Season-High Against Newport

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). They were the clear victors by a 28-1 margin over the Newport Wildcats on Friday. With that victory, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 7.9 runs per game.

Alex Arlinghaus made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Arlinghaus was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Cooper Brue and Ben Issenmann did most of the damage at the plate: Brue scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Issenmann scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those hits marked the first that Brue got this season. Noah Hopple was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Holy Cross' win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Newport, their loss was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Looking ahead, Holy Cross will head out to take on Holmes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Newport, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Paris at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Newport is facing Paris at the right time seeing as Paris is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
