Volleyball Game Preview: Corona Panthers vs. Santiago Sharks

Corona is 0-9 against Santiago since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out to face off against the Sharks at 5:45 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with 15 losses in a row, Corona turned things around against King on Thursday. They came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 3-1.

While Corona might've won, it sure wasn't easy: King scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Meanwhile, Santiago had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sharks have posted since March 21st.

Santiago took Roosevelt into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12.

Corona better focus on containing Elijah Tajo and Nathan Martinez as the pair were huge in Santiago's win. Tajo had 13 digs and one assist, while Martinez had seven digs and two aces. That's the most digs Tajo has posted since back in March.

Corona's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 7-20. As for Santiago, their win bumped their record up to 17-8.

Corona suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Santiago when the teams last played back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
