Softball Game Preview: Lockhart Lions vs. Leander Lions

Lockhart is 0-4 against Leander since March of 2023 but things could change on Monday. We've got a battle between Lions coming up. Lockhart will be strutting in after a win while Leander will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Lockhart turned things around against Cedar Park on Friday. They skirted past the Timberwolves 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since February 14th.

Lilly Villarreal was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Marissa Sosa was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Presli Moebes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lockhart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Leander's offense. They lost 8-0 to Rouse on Friday.

Scarlett Geurin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.

Leander's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Lockhart, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-10.

Lockhart came up short against Leander in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 9-5. Can Lockhart avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
