Baseball Recap: Bonney Lake Panthers vs. Sumner Spartans

Bonney Lake extended their losing streak to 11 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-16 in the process. They fell 10-5 to the Sumner Spartans. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in March of 2019.

Trent Blake was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since April 1st. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Evan Hellner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Sumner's side, Cole Miller looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miller has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wyatt Plyler was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Cameron Westerdahl also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
