Basketball Preview: Campbell County Camels vs. Simon Kenton Pioneers
The Campbell County Camels will head out on the road to challenge the Simon Kenton Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Campbell County can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 78-35 win over Nicholas County at home. Given Campbell County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Bluejackets are ranked 194th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, even though Oldham County scored an imposing 70 points on Friday, Simon Kenton still came out on top. Simon Kenton walked away with a 79-70 win over the Colonels.
Simon Kenton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jay Bilton out in front who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Bilton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Travis Krohman was another key contributor, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds.
Campbell County pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for Simon Kenton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
Campbell County came up short against the Pioneers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 54-48. Can Campbell County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
