Soccer Recap: Durham Academy Takes a Loss

There was early excitement for Durham Academy after they claimed the first goal on Friday, however, they wouldn't score again. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Cannon Cougars who were credited with the victory. The Cannon Cougars got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to the Durham Academy Cavaliers' three. Durham Academy were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cannon apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Durham Academy's goal came courtesy of Cate Ellis, which was the first she's scored this season.

With the loss, Durham Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3. As for Cannon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4-2.

Durham Academy wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against North Raleigh Christian Academy on the 15th. As for Cannon, they have also already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Legion Collegiate Academy on the 14th.
